Who we are
Halo is run by Ioannis (John) Georgopoulos, an individual based in Greece. He is the “data controller” for the information described here, which means he decides how it's used and is responsible for it. For anything about your data, email hello@joinhaloapp.com.
This policy covers this website and the Halo waitlist.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist.
- Which apps you use, if you choose to tell us after joining. This is optional.
- How you found us: the link you arrived from (for example a tag like
?ref=…) and which version of the page you saw. - When you joined.
- Basic visit statistics: pages viewed and buttons used, counted without cookies. Our analytics provider receives your IP address and browser details as part of any web request, and uses them to work out things like your approximate country. We don't store your IP address with your waitlist entry.
We don't ask for your name, phone number, or anything from your messaging apps.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To email you about Halo: a welcome email now, and updates and the launch announcement later. Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by joining (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time.
- To understand what works: which pages and links bring people to the waitlist, so we can improve them. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (Article 6(1)(f)), using counts that don't identify you.
- To keep the waitlist clean: stopping spam and duplicate signups. To do that, our server briefly uses your IP address to limit repeated signups. It's held in memory for a few minutes and never stored. Also a legitimate interest.
We don't sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising. We don't make automated decisions about you.
Who else handles it
We use a few trusted services to run the waitlist. They process data only on our instructions:
- Resend: stores the waitlist and sends our emails.
- PostHog: counts visits, without cookies, on servers in the EU.
- Our website host: serves the site, and like any server receives standard request data such as IP addresses.
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, it's protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
We keep your waitlist details until Halo launches and for up to 12 months after, so we can honour the waitlist offer. After that we delete them, unless you've created a Halo account. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we do it within 30 days.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- show you the data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to it;
- send it to you or another service in a common format.
Email hello@joinhaloapp.com and we'll reply within one month. It's free. To stop our emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email or just reply “unsubscribe”.
If you're in the EU or UK and unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority. In Greece that's the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.
If you're in California (or another US state with a privacy law): we don't sell or “share” personal information as those laws define it, and you have the rights to know, delete and correct described above. We won't treat you differently for using them.
Cookies
We don't use cookies. The site remembers that you've joined, in your own browser, so the page doesn't ask you again when you come back. See our Cookie Policy.
Children
The waitlist is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think a child has joined, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and is stored with providers who protect it with industry-standard security. No system is perfect, but we only collect what we need, which keeps the risk small.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll email you before it takes effect.
